Runiís Desire, the timeless vibrant boutique, is aptly named as it represents the dream and desire of its founder and designer Rozina Ahmed Runi ; it stands in contribution of her passion to create beautiful and fashionable South Asian clothing ; to offer the most satisfying and outstanding shopping experience to her customers. Designer Runi has a well stocked and diverse offering that can confidently impress even the most discerning clientele. Designer Runi was born in Chittagong (Bangladesh) and despite her Assamese (Indian) heritage, she has a strong devotion for designing Bangladeshi clothes. While Runi currently resides in New York (U S A), she has travelled to various countries. She did her first course of Fashion Design from BID at Dhaka, in the 1980’s. She took several trainings from Dubai on Fashion Design during her trips. Her wealth of knowledge and creativity reflects the numerous places she has visited, and her designs effortlessly combine to show off this unique flavor. Runi was always a dreamer of fashion, even as a small girl growing up in Chittagong (Bangladesh).
She was always very excited to adorn others with her fashionable designed attire. When she moved to Dhaka from Chittagong, she found the inspiration and encouragement to become a designer from her visits to Aarong, where she observed the creations of the famous designer Maheen Khan. Under the guidance of several mentors, Runi has been designing since 1982, but became an independent designer in 1986. After gaining the required confidence, she opened her first boutique, “Charlie’s Angels ", along with her other two friends Rushi and Ratna. “Charlie’s Angels” did very well and motivated Runi to open up a beauty salon alongside. The beauty salon was named “Angels”, jointly owned by Runi and beautician Naheen.
The “Charlie’s Angels” boutique was renamed as “Angels” and was jointly owned by Runi and her friend, Nazmun Nahar Yuna. Both enterprises run successfully for a couple of years. Later the beauty salon closed and Runi focused only in Fashion Design. Lastly in Bangladesh, Runi opened another boutique named “You and Me ". “You and Me” was very successful and made Runi more popular. Runi also won several Eid competitions that were held yearly by the fashion magazines. When Runi decided to leave for USA, she sold “You and Me” and left with a hope to pursue her dream overseas. Runi arrived in New York in the year 2002, and since 2005 Designer Runi has been showing her collections at numerous fashion shows taking place in Manhattan Center, Dhaka Club, Queens Place, Club Sanam , 5 Star Banquet & Restaurant amongst other respected locations. In 2008 Runiís Desire opened its doors to everyone. Besides South Asian garments, she also designs clothes that follow an Islamic style of dressing such as Hijab. However, she aims to design them in a revolutionized manner, proving they can look both religiously respectful yet fashionable. Runi does not believe in blindly following trends, but rather that clothes should be original and individualistic. Her designs reflect her preference for Airbrush, Hand Paint, Block, Tie Dye, Batik and Karchupi. Her clothes are mostly produced in Dhaka (Bangladesh).
Demands for her clothing extend well beyond New York with requests coming in from places like Canada, UK, France and Australia. Even though she has not yet officially opened an online store, people are flooding in with phone calls and e-mails, requesting that the clothes may be mailed to them as they come across her designs on her Google ( Designer Runi ) Facebook ( runis desire ), website ( www.runisdesire.com ) , YouTube (runisdesire ) , Yelp ( Runi's Desire ) , Twitter ( runisdesire ) , MySpace ( Runi's Desire ) . Runi enthusiastically endorses and highly appreciates the success of the legendary Bangladeshi designers namely Maheen Khan (Mantra), Biplop Shaha (Rong), Bibi Russel, the belated Shahrukh Shahid and among the Indian designers are Manish Malhotra & Sabyasachi Mukherjee. As a result of the widespread appeal for her clothing line, Runi looks forward to opening more branches of Runiís Desire in other Countries including Canada, UK and Australia. She also intends to participate in more fashion shows as well as opening an online store in the near future.
